FA Tesco Skills and Skelton United Girls Schools Festival
Years 3 & 4
As part of the Football Association’s drive to raise standards and playing opportunities in 5-11 year olds 90 full time professional Skills Coaches have been employed across the country. Six of these coaches work within the North Riding region with me working in the Redcar and Cleveland area. As coaches we have undertaken specialist age appropriate coaching courses designed to make us specialists in improving and developing Football and Fundamental skills of the 5-11 year age group.
As part of this programme we work within Primary Schools and local clubs and are employed to encourage and provide pathways for young players to play regular Football in local recognised Charter Standard Clubs. Consequently we are currently working alongside Skelton United to promote Girls Football in the area through the staging of a FREE Girls Festival at their clubs facilities, De Brus School, Skelton, on Tuesday 13th July (9.30am arrival – 2.00pm departure approx, dependent on number of schools). The festival will aim to run on a 5-a-side round-robin basis depending on attending numbers (schools can enter more than one team if they so wish, we recommend a squad of 6-7 players per team).
The Girls only 5-a-side festival is specifically aimed at current Year 3 and Year 4 Girls to introduce them to the sport in a fun, safe, friendly and exciting environment. The 5-a-side format will ensure a greater involvement from the girls when playing as well as providing more exciting goal scoring opportunities.
The festival is also aimed at serving to provide the girls with an opportunity and pathway for Girls to potentially join a local club. It is hoped that schools will see the benefits of this festival in either starting or strengthening their schools-clubs links particularly in the significantly under-represented sport of Girls Football.

Local Football for Local Children
FA CHARTER STANDARD CLUB 2009
___________________________________________________________________________________
Dear Parent/Carer
On behalf of Skelton United Junior Football Club I would like to welcome you and your child to the club and take this opportunity to provide you with the following information.
HISTORY AND AIMS FOR THE FUTURE
Skelton United was formed in 2008 to provide children from Skelton and the surrounding area with the opportunity to play local football.
On its first open day in April 2008 the club attracted 200 local children to a football session at Skelton Primary School and has gone from strength to strength ever since. In time for the start of the 2008/09 season we moved to our home ground at De Brus playing fields and had five teams playing in the Teesside Junior Football Alliance League and two girls teams playing in the North Riding and Tees Valley League.
In 2009 the club achieved the Football Association’s “Charter Standard” and is currently working towards “Development Club” status. This demonstrates that the club has adopted best practice in relation to standards of coaching, administration and safeguarding children.
As the club has grown so have our ambitions for the future of the club and our aim is to have our own dedicated club house, car parking, drainage for our playing surfaces and fencing around them. The cost of realising this dream will be in the region of £500,000 and we hope to raise these funds through a considerable donation from the Football Foundation, other large grants and fundraising activities organised by club members.
The club is run by a voluntary committee and a list of committee members along with contact details is available at our website, www.skeltonunited-jfc.co.uk.
ACTIVITIES
The club has grown rapidly since its formation and currently provides the following activities:
Saturday Morning Club for 5-11 year olds
Soccer Tots for 3-4 year olds
Mixed football for Under 7’s to Under 11’s
Girl’s football for Under 10s, Under 12s and Under 14s
Boy’s football for Under 12s, Under 13s and Under 14s
All coaching is carried out by volunteers who have, as a minimum, the FA Level 1 Club Coach qualification, (or have provided an undertaking to complete Level 1 within the first 12 months). All volunteers are screened for their suitability for working with children and will only be allowed to work unsupervised with children once clearance has been obtained via the FA CRB Unit.
Parents/carers are welcome to attend training sessions and matches.
Teams normally train once a week and play matches at weekends. Training is usually outdoor in summer and indoor in winter.
SUBSCRIPTIONS
Club subscriptions for team players are £130 per year and must be paid either in full prior to commencement of the season or by monthly standing order, (£10.00 every 4 weeks (Lunar month) If your child plays for a team and the club does not receive payment for your child then it may not be possible for your child to register for the following season. If you have any difficulty with the payment of subs please contact our Club Treasurer, Barbara Clarke on 07834223444.
Team players are also required to pay a League registration fee before the start of each season.
Children attending Saturday Morning Club and Soccer Tots pay for each session attended.
KIT
Team players will receive a training kit consisting of a top, shorts and socks and a match kit consisting of a top, shorts and socks and tracksuit. It is essential that you provide your child with shin pads and boots. A £10 kit deposit is payable before the kit can be provided. This deposit is refundable when the kit is returned in a reasonable condition consistent with its age and use.
Children attending Saturday Morning Club and Soccer Tots must provide their own kit. In addition to shorts and a top an outer garment is advisable for keeping warm at the beginning and end of the session. We also suggest that your child brings a bottle of water to the session.
CLUB REGISTRATION
A club membership form must be completed when your child joins the club. This ensures that we have parental/carer contact numbers and information about your child’s medical condition or allergies which may be relevant should your child fall ill or is involved in an accident whilst at the club.
CHILD PROTECTION
Our Club Welfare Officers are responsible for ensuring that our Safeguarding Children Policy is implemented and can be contacted should you have any concerns about your child’s welfare. Our Safeguarding Children Policy can be viewed on our website at www.skeltonunited-jfc.co.uk. The Club Welfare Officer is Laura Payne and the Deputy Welfare Officer is Cath Hartnett. Contact details are available on our website.
RESPECT CAMPAIGN
The club endorses the FA’s Respect campaign. This is the FA’s programme designed to address unacceptable behaviour in football both on and off the pitch. We recommend that you take a look at the FA’s free online Respect Parent Guide which can be found on our web site under club news, Respect Campaign, www.skeltonunited-jfc.co.uk
In line with the Respect campaign we request that you and your child sign and agree to abide by the obligations set out in the Respect Player Code of Conduct and the Parent/Carer/Spectator Code of Conduct.
Where incidents of unacceptable behaviour occur the club will implement sanctions against that person or persons.
VOLUNTEERS
Volunteers are always needed and we welcome any additional help in running our club activities. In addition to coaches we require volunteers to run our cafe on a Saturday and Sunday morning and to supervise car parking on match days. If you are interested please contact any of our committee members.
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter and I hope that you and your child enjoy your time at the club.
Yours sincerely
Jim Hartnett
